What Does Guyana Medical Relief (GMR)Do?

Medical Supplies & Equipment

  • Since 1984 we have worked with Direct Relief (DR) a non-profit corporation that acquires Medical Supplies and Equipment from various companies and health organizations and arrange packing/shipping to many countries that are in need. With this partnership we have sent donated medical supplies and equipment valued at over US$120 million.

International Outreach

  • In order to leverage our resources and extend the reach of our medical support to the people of Guyana, GMR has developed relationships with other non-governmental organizations that are also engaged in non-profit medical work in Guyana. GMR has sponsored medical outreach missions by international and local organizations.

Dental Outreach

  • As often as possible, GMR tries to organize a dental team to be part of both the international and local medical outreach missions. Dr. Lloyd Stoll, Vice President of GMR, has led several dental clinics independently and during outreach missions.

Local Outreach

  • GMR collaborates with other local non-profit groups in Guyana to launch outreach medical missions across the country. These groups include Guyana Cancer Society (GCS), the Central Islamic Organization of Guyana (CIOG), Food for the Poor ( FFTP), Humanitarian Assistance Program of the U.S. Embassy, The Davis Hospital Dental and Cheddi Jagan Dental School.

Capital Projects

  • GMR has been able to complete several projects that required construction or refurbishment of a facility, as requested by the hospitals. We fully fund these projects and oversee their completion before handing over to the hospital.

TOMS Shoes Partnership

GMR developed a relationship with TOMS Shoes and became a recipient of the company’s “One for One” shoe donation program.  Between 2011 and 2019, GMR received several annual shipments of thousands of shoes and sandals in Guyana.  GMR then facilitated the distribution of these shoes and sandals across all regions to school-aged children.  The children were encouraged to attend medical clinics for check-ups and provided with shoes during their visit.  Distribution was also made at schools and community centers.  The need was so great that some children in remote areas walked miles (sometimes barefooted) to get to GMR’s distribution location in order to receive  a pair of shoes.  The TOMS Shoes “One for One” shoe donation program was discontinued in 2019, but it was a very impactful program for the children in Guyana.
