Medical Supplies & Equipment
GMR has worked with Direct Relief (DR) since 1984. DR is a non-profit corporation that receives donated medical supplies and equipment from various companies and health organizations and arrange packing/shipping to many countries that are in need. Over the years through this partnership, GMR has sent donated medical supplies and equipment valued at over US$120 million to Guyana. GMR has also purchased equipment requested by hospitals and shipped it to them.
Initially only 2 hospitals in Georgetown were supported – Georgetown Public Hospital and Mercy Hospital. Our service and support has expanded to 9 hospitals and multiple satellite health facilities and clinics across all 10 regions in Guyana. GMR has been able to reach all 10 regions through medical outreach missions in collaboration with other non-profit entities.
Donations are made to hospitals that use the supplies to provide free medical services to the community.
Direct Relief provides a list of the medication and other supplies available and their expiration dates. Each hospital indicates what they would like to receive from that list, so that only needed and approved medical supplies and equipment from various companies and health organizations are packaged and shipped to Guyana.
GMR works with the Guyana Ministry to Health to ensure all required protocols are followed and any drugs donated meet their shelf life requirements.
Our representative in Guyana arranges the clearance of the shipment and distribution to the hospitals and satellite clinics
